Essentially, detoxification is the process by which your body gets rid of matter and toxins it doesn’t need or want. Your body has several systems that do this, including the colon, liver, kidney, lungs, and even skin. But, like all of your body’s systems—from your immune system to your digestive one—your detox system can use a little boost sometimes. When you talk about a detox program, it will typically involve A) limiting the amount of toxins you introduce into your body and B) Improving the function of organs that remove toxins. Detoxification habits aren’t something you only need to do a couple times a year. While some more intense regiments should be done sparingly (like juice cleanses) there are gentle ways you can help your body eliminate toxins every single day. Here are simple ways you can detox daily. [caption id="attachment_717965" align="alignleft" width="420"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

Add berries to your breakfast

Strawberries in your cereal, raspberries on toast, blueberries in your oatmeal—it’s pretty easy to add berries to breakfast food, and when you do, you start your day with a superfood.           [caption id="attachment_620398" align="alignleft" width="500"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

Switch up your water temperature

Exposing your body to hot, then cold, then hot, then cold water is called hydrotherapy. But you don’t need a fancy spa to do it for you; you can do this in your shower! The process improves circulation and helps with waste elimination. [caption id="attachment_627016" align="alignleft" width="500"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

Use apple cider vinegar on your salad

Not only is apple cider vinegar super tasty, but it’s also a superfood. Raw apple cider vinegar helps remove toxins from your liver, so add it to your food whenever you can. [caption id="attachment_620400" align="alignleft" width="500"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

Scrub-a-dub

Loofahs don’t just leave your skin feeling touchably smooth, they also help you detox. Dead cells clog up your skin, reducing its ability to release toxins through your pores.     [caption id="attachment_721555" align="alignleft" width="420"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

Sip on this

Cilantro, garlic, red clover, chicory, green, cayenne pepper, milk thistle—these are all types of teas that help detoxify your body. You can alternate the variety each day of the week, so you don’t grow tired of your tea.           [caption id="attachment_624907" align="alignleft" width="460"]black woman drinking water Corbis[/caption]

Hydrate

In case you needed one more reason to drink more water, how about this: it helps you have easier and more frequent bowel movements. These are important since feces carry a lot of toxins, so you want to keep them moving out.         [caption id="attachment_623416" align="alignleft" width="430"] Shutterstock[/caption]

Clean your mouth thoroughly

This means not just brushing your teeth twice a day (preferably with an electric toothbrush) but also flossing and scraping your tongue daily. Germs can sit between your teeth and on your tongue and make their way back into your body, introducing toxins to your system.       [caption id="attachment_716969" align="alignleft" width="420"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

Workout

Perhaps you’re one of those lucky individuals who has a perfect figure and doesn’t need to exercise to look good. And maybe you even, somehow, ace your physical exams each year—blood work and all—without exercising. But there’s one thing you cannot do if you don’t exercise and that is work your lymphatic system, which you need to do to detox.       [caption id="attachment_706469" align="alignleft" width="420"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

Sweat

Speaking of working out, that’s an activity that helps you detox in more ways than one because it also helps you sweat! When you sweat, your body releases toxins. But you can sweat in plenty of ways, like hitting up your gym’s sauna or steam room.           [caption id="attachment_623347" align="alignleft" width="500"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

Spice things up with super foods

Cumin, turmeric, oregano, rosemary, ginger, thyme, and clove are all super foods. They also add a lot of flavor to your food, so spice up your dinner with these herbs and spices.   [caption id="attachment_714826" align="alignleft" width="420"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

Choose organic food when possible

Non-organic food is usually covered in chemicals that your body has to work hard to process. This means your detoxification systems slow down.           [caption id="attachment_826713" align="alignleft" width="477"] Bigstockphoto.com/Young woman jumps on trampoline attraction in lying position.[/caption]

Buy a trampoline

Trampolines aren’t just for little kids; they’re detoxification tools! Jumping up and down boosts your lymphatic system and your circulation, and doing so on a trampoline makes it easy on your joints.         [caption id="attachment_719113" align="alignleft" width="414"] Shutterstock[/caption]

Take probiotics

Probiotics help your body digest your food more efficiently, which means your colon can eliminate waste more frequently. As we already know, bowel movements help the detoxification process.           [caption id="attachment_622855" align="alignleft" width="500"] Image Source: Shuttestock[/caption]

Eat kimchi

If you’d rather eat your probiotics than swallow them in capsule form, fermented food like kimchi and sauerkraut are high in them. Even just adding half a cup to your plate goes a long way.     [caption id="attachment_615850" align="alignnone" width="1000"] Corbis Images[/caption]

Get upside down

Whether this is through a head stand, lying on the floor and putting your legs up the wall, or hanging your legs over the monkey bars at the playground, get upside down somehow for a few minutes. This helps purify your blood and work your lymphatic system. [caption id="attachment_625364" align="alignleft" width="425"] Shutterstock[/caption]

Go to the bathroom immediately

When you feel the urge to urinate or have a bowel movement, go right away. You don’t want that matter to sit inside of your body any longer than necessary, allowing toxins to stick to your insides.         [caption id="attachment_713776" align="alignleft" width="420"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

Invest in a blender

If you were to cut up and chew all of the super foods you need in one day, then you’d spend all day eating. Instead, become a master smoothie maker! Liquifying your super foods makes it easy to slurp them down in minutes.           [caption id="attachment_693887" align="alignleft" width="420"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

Sleep during regular hours

Sleeping regular hours means going to bed sometime before midnight and getting up sometimes before 9 am. Why these hours? Because your liver does its best detoxifying work early in the morning but only if it’s had plenty of deep rest leading up to that. Meanwhile, sleeping too late can throw off your bowel movements.       [caption id="attachment_622835" align="alignleft" width="500"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

Ease up on the tuna sandwiches

Actually, ease up on tuna, mackerel, grouper, swordfish, marlin and most large fish, as these tend to be high in mercury.     [caption id="attachment_711702" align="alignleft" width="420"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

Cleanse your home

I don’t mean with sage (although that is nice to do!) but rather, by adding small plants to your home, adding air purifiers, making sure your air conditioner is running efficiently and things like that.
