A couple of weeks ago, we wrote about the very courageous stand author Roxane Gay took in refusing to let Simon and Schuster publish her book. Her decision was a direct result of the publishing house’s decision to offer Milo Yiannopoulos a book deal.
That book deal has since been rescinded. According to the Washington Post, Simon and Schuster announced their decision with little explanation.
“After careful consideration, Simon & Schuster and its Threshold Editions imprint have cancelled publication of ‘Dangerous’ by Milo Yiannopoulos.”
As for her protest against the company, Roxane Gay says it still stands. On her Tumblr page, she wrote:
“When his comments about pedophilia/pederasty came to light, Simon & Schuster realized it would cost them more money to do business with Milo than he could earn for them. After I pulled my book, they changed the release date of Dangerous from March to June 13, the day my next book, Hunger, comes out. I said nothing because I was neither threatened nor concerned but it did reinforce for me that this was not a company I wanted to do business with. My protest stands.”
As you may recall, Yiannopolous champions himself as an advocate of free speech but he really just wants license to say flagrant and foul things. He went on a crusade against Leslie Jones, eventually getting himself kicked off of Twitter. He’s basically a racist and speaks often on why “Black Lives don’t matter.” Still, all of these things didn’t disqualify him from a book deal, much to the chagrin of the reasonable public. But with someone like Yiannopoulos, it was only a matter of time before something he said offended virtually anyone with a conscious. And that day came recently when a conservative Twitter account shared some of Yiannopoulous’ comments about sexual relationships between older boys and younger men.
“What normally happens in schools, very often, is it’s an older woman with a younger boy. And the boy is the predator in that situation. The boy is like ‘Let’s see if I can f*ck the gym teacher or let’s see if I can f*ck the hot math teacher. And he does. The women fall in love with these nubile young men and end up having their lives destroyed. This is a controversial point of view, I accept. But we get hung up on this sort of child abuse stuff, to the point where we’re heavily policing even relationships between consenting adults- sort of grad students and professors at universities. This arbitrary and oppressive idea of consent which totally destroys the understanding that many of us have of the complexities and subtleties and complicated nature of many relationships. People are messy and complex. In the homosexual world, particularly, some of those relationships between younger boys and older men — the sort of ‘coming of age’ relationship — those relationships in which those older men help those young boys discover who they are and give them security and safety and provide them with love and a reliable, sort of rock, where they can’t speak to their parents—some of those relationships are some of the most…”
The hosts interrupt to say that it sounds like molestation to them, Catholic priest molestation to be specific.
Yiannopoulos’ response?
“I’m grateful for Father Michael. I wouldn’t nearly such good head if it wasn’t for him.”

Yiannopoulos later said that the group who released the “deceptively edited” interview were trying to run a smear campaign on him. Though he did admit that his word choice and framing was “sloppy.”
Later, he wrote “I do not support pedophilia. Period.”
Too late.
Well there you have it ladies and gentlemen. If heinous bullying and outright racism doesn’t do it, pedophilia will. Good to know.
